S60 Record Books

Jack Torrance - Contributing Reporter

Winner Winner....Chicken Dinner

Houston, we have a winner! What a Game 7 that was, top of the 9th with Houston leading 7-3 the Aroma are down to their last 3 outs. Single. Fly Out. Walk. Walk to load the bases. Fly Out. Bases loaded, 2 outs and back to back NL MVP stepping up to the plate; who might I add has struggled this postseason. Line drive grand slam to tie it up. Bottom of the 9th; K, great play at 2B for 2nd out with AL MVP up with 2 out and nobody on - strike out; game goes to extras. Top of 10 the Tacoma Aroma had 2 outs and a runner on 3rd to have B.Cooper ground out to the SS; to the bottom of the inning we go with Houston's cleanup hitter due up first. Single, Single - runner advances to third. Zero out and runners on the corner. B.Maxwell hits a groundball single passed the second baseman, scoring Lester for the walk-off. And the celebration and banging of the trash cans began!! Congrats to rawdk for the Series win.

Trivia

New York Empire continued their storied run, and narrowly avoided a record 5th straight #1 pick. Previous owner went 30-95 (.240) while Arfy, his replacement, went 16-21 (.432). 8 of those early 30 wins came against Jacksonville, with just 2 losses; which means NY had gone 22-93 (.191) against every other franchise.

With little effort required, Scottsdale turned Tokyo's league worst .232 winning % minor league clubs into a .439 winning %, nearly doubling their percentage from last year; but at what cost? The wildcard they made last year, but then again the team was in sell mode and not expecting to make it anyway. Taking their place as worse minor league record is Atlanta at 116-536 (.178) partially thanks to Harry Raley (Atl - DH) & Douglas Mende (Atl - CF) coming in at #1 and #2 respectively in innings pitched down in Rookie ball; all in relief appearances of course since you can't set a position player to start a game. They combined for 71 appearances, 276 innings pitched, 280 earned runs, 2.44 WHIP, 9.13 ERA. And at the level above them, Low A; Atlanta had an amazing 41 games losing streak as part of a bigger 1-59 run. Their High A had a similar 35 game losing streak. AA, a 22 game game losing streak. And AAA had a 34 game losing streak to start the season. Moving on because it's the minors and nobody cares about the minors minus those drafted in the first round or signed to an IFA deal above $10M. I propose we develop a new minor league, called the Star League - where only potential ML stars can be assigned - let them duel it out as they develop and before they become ML stars of the future. The league will have 8 teams, each division gets their own team, forcing division rivals to work together to develop their prospects.

On that note, EK set a Cobbfather record with his 11th straight 100+ win season; tying former NY Empire's alex previous record of 11 and his (EK's) previous best of 8 straight during his last big run. Which is crazy to think that division has been owned by two teams during three different runs for a combined 30 of our 60 seasons. Congrats to him and looks like he'll be able to keep it going for the foreseeable future. Good luck to new owner arfy and the rest of the division in upstaging him.

Moving on to team records. We are changing things up a bit and working on a post from earlier this season about including stats from the last 20 seasons. For this season that goes back to S40. We'll move forward with a 20 season rolling clock to see which team owns records based on the last two decades of play. Hard to beat some of those early seasons (1-13) before there were tweaks to the game engine. Underlined and bold teams are records from this season.
