Season 36 Wrap Up - Little Rock takes the Crown!
|
After a dominant regular season, that saw them atop the power rankings for all four regular season editions, Little Rock capped off the season with a World Series crown with a sweep of Florida. It almost didn't come to pass, as Jackson gave them a tough 5-game series in the ALDS. They then beat Fargo in 6 in the ALCS before completing the sweep in the World Series. Their bats were impressive all post season, posting a .925 team OPS, while their pitching held their own with a 3.33 team postseason ERA. Congrats to jibe and Little Rock on their first Cobbfather title.
Florida should be commended for another excellent postseason run, making their 6th World Series in 11 seasons, quite the impressive feat and far better than most who have never made it all.
Thanks to all for a great Season 36, hope to have Season 37 up and going soon. See you next season!

Season 36 Award Winners
Let's see who took home the hardware in Season 36!
MOST VALUABLE PLAYER
American League - Sean Gosling, Charlotte - .257 AVG 43 HR 119 RBI 22 SB
Although certainly not his most impressive season, Gosling took home his second consecutive MVP award, despite receiving less than 30% of the votes. Make no mistake, Gosling is one of the best players in Cobbfather, but the numbers he posted this season just seem slightly below MVP-level. Congrats to him and Charlotte on the win, nonetheless. Gosling also made his 3rd All-Star appearance this season as a starter and won his 3rd Silver Slugger Award.
National League - Haywood Swann, Nashville - .289 AVG 45 HR 105 RBI 27 SB
The 27 year-old Nashville slugger, Swann, who led the NL in Runs, Slugging and OPS, also took home the NL MVP trophy. He's an extraordinary all-around hitter and looking at his ratings, it's a surprise this is only his first win. Swann also made his 3rd All-Star appearance this season as a reserve. The former #2 overall draft pick has proved worthy of his position and should continue to post impressive numbers for seasons to come.
CY YOUNG AWARD
American League - Chick Munson, Fargo - 19-7 2.77 ERA 252 K
The 32 year-old workhorse righty out of Fargo picked up his 2nd Cy Young award with another outstanding season which saw him set new Cobbfather records for Complete Games and Shutouts. Additionally, he also led the AL in Strikeouts and WHIP. Acquired in a mid-season trade in Season 35, Munson has certainly paid dividends for Fargo. He also made his 5th All-Star appearance this season.
National League - Gregor Lopez, Buffalo - 19-2 1.99 ERA 215 K
In a runaway win, the 22 year-old Cuban dominated the NL this season in taking home his first Cy Young award. He led the NL in ERA, Strikeouts, WHIP and Quality Starts and made his 2nd All-Star appearance in Season 36. With his ratings nearly flawless and at only 22 years old, Lopez certainly has the potential to be one of the all-time great Cobbfather hurlers. It will be exciting to see what kind of numbers he puts up going forward.
ROOKIE OF THE YEAR
American League - Greg James, Houston - .281 AVG 29 HR 86 RBI
By the slightest of margins (one single vote), the 24 year-old Houston outfielder takes home the AL Rookie of the year trophy. Acquired from Florida last season, James has a nice batting skills all the way around. He was the 18th overall pick in the Season 32 draft and made a solid impact for a rebuilding Houston squad this season. He will be a good bat to have in the lineup going forward.
National League - Jair James, Oklahoma City - 16-8 2.89 ERA 215 K
James came out on top of the battle of Oklahoma City teammates to take home the NL Rookie of the Year. The 24 year-old righty who was the #5 pick in the Season 34 draft tied for the NL lead in both Strikeouts and Shutouts in his rookie campaign. Looking at his stat line, it's a bit of a surprise he wasn't a finalist for NL Cy Young. Other than a tendency to give up the fly ball, James' makeup really has no weaknesses. He looks to be a big part of the future for an Oklahoma City squad that is on the rise.
FIREMAN OF THE YEAR
American League - Olmedo Valdez, St. Louis - 1.82 ERA, 43 SV, 1st Win
National League - Ned Morris, Nashville - 1.99 ERA, 52 SV, 1st Win
